After a three-month delay in attempts to purchase water rights, veterinarian Danny Larson said construction on Dayton Riverside Veterinary Hospital will begin next week.
"We had two people come forward (offering water rights) after hearing we were having difficulties," Larson said.
Larson purchased 1.6 acres in the 200 block of Dayton Valley Road and planned to open the vet hospital in June. After discovering the 2.58 acre-feet of water rights he purchased with the property were being used for irrigation in Stagecoach, the project was delayed until he could purchase other water rights, or have existing rights transferred back to his property.
When purchasing property in the state of Nevada, water rights are purchased separately, but may be assigned for other use.
"Mike Millard, of Millard Realty/Stanton Homes, and Stoney Tennant wanted to see what they could do to help. We went with Millard because they came to us first and allowed us to purchase the minimum water rights needed to get started. I thank these two individuals for coming forward."
Once construction begins, Larson said the building process will take four to five months and he anticipates holding an open house in October.
Grizwold Construction is the builder.
Dayton Riverside Veterinary Hospital will be a 3,500-square-foot, free-standing hospital with three exam rooms with space for a fourth. It will include digital X-ray equipment, a surgery room and separate waiting and exam rooms for healthy and potentially contagious pets.
There is one other veterinary hospital in Dayton at 14 Enterprise Way, off Highway 50 East, with two veterinarians on staff.
"In the interim, I'm still doing house calls," Larson said.
