Gov. Sandoval to give televised speech on budget Tuesday

(AP) - Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval will give a prime time televised speech to talk about the economy, the state budget and the Legislature.

The governor's address is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, and will come a day after the state Economic Forum meets to forecast revenues for the next two years.

A first-term Republican, Sandoval has proposed a $5.8 billion, two-year spending plan. The governor has said he won't raise taxes or fees.

Democrats in the Legislature say his no-tax stance threatens to gut education and stymie economic growth.

Sandoval counters that raising taxes as Nevada tries to climb out of a recession would put more financial burden on struggling families and businesses and harm the state's recovery.รถ
