Wild Horse Gallery open at Carson Mall

One new business is bringing a bit of western to Carson City. The Wild Horse Gallery opened in the Carson Mall in November; however, it will be celebrating its grand opening Feb. 8. The store offers custom matted and framed western, wildlife and patriotic artwork, custom décor and jewelry.

State investigator faces discipline in hit and run case

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Nevada Transportation Authority agent following a hit and run crash while on duty last month. According to police reports, at 3:05 p.m. on Jan. 5, Robert Reasoner, 36, allegedly hit a parked Honda CR-V with his state-issued Ford Explorer in the 500 block of John Street.

November Taxable Sales up 5.6 percent statewide, 16 percent in Carson

Taxable sales totaling $4.45 billion were reported by Nevada businesses in November, a 5.6 percent increase over the same month of 2015. Carson City, however, reported an increase of 16.1 percent, almost entirely because of auto and building material sales.

Carson Valley lone Nevada gaming market to see 2016 decrease

Every gaming market in Nevada showed a year-over-year increase in 2016 – with one exception. That exception is the Carson Valley reporting area that includes the valley portion of Douglas County along with Carson City. But Carson Valley was down just two-tenths of a percent for the calendar year.

Man arrested after threatening others with a knife says Carson City Sheriff’s Office

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. THURSDAY At 11:04 a.m., Colton Corrales, 23, of Carson City was arrested on suspicion of felony parole and probation hold, felony providing false identification to avoid prosecution, trespassing and tampering with a motor vehicle after deputies responded to reports of a man trying to break into vehicles near the 700 block of Hot Springs Road. Bail was set at $5,400.

Grammy winner headed to trial

A Washoe County Grammy Award winner will go to trial in June on charges he sold methamphetamine. Randy C. Cantor, 58, was arrested in May 2016 in the Mont Bleu Casino Parking Lot in Stateline for allegedly selling 57.9 grams of methamphetamine. He denied the charges Tuesday in Douglas County District Court.

Parks weighs in on Sandoval’s plan to reduce prison overcrowding

The senator who 10 years ago oversaw the effort to reduce Nevada’s inmate population said Thursday he welcomes the governor’s plan to speed the parole process and invest in programs to reduce recidivism. The proposed budget says changes are needed because Nevada’s system is at capacity and will need up to 700 more inmate beds over the coming biennium.

2 lawmakers seek law to exempt tampons from sales tax

Two freshman Democratic state lawmakers say they want the Nevada Legislature to get rid of what they call an unfair sales tax on feminine hygiene products. State Sen. Yvanna Cancela and Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui said Thursday they’re introducing measures in Carson City to make products such as tampons and sanitary napkins tax-exempt.

Recently the use of recreational marijuana was approved in Nevada. State lawmakers will appropriate the money received in taxes for the school system. I am absolutely thrilled that our students may be reaping the benefits from its sale. I wondered if the use of marijuana included pets using it.

Douglas County adds charges on to men who were arrested on suspicion of burglary in Carson City

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Carson City Sheriff’s Office arrested two men suspected of committing multiple residential burglaries around the two counties in the last week. The burglaries happened in Douglas County on White Oak Loop in the Arbor Gardens subdivision, Fremont Avenue and Melbourne Way, both in the Johnson Lane area. In the Carson area, the suspects allegedly burglarized homes on Crain Street, and in the area of Long and Mountain Streets.

Two arrested following burglaries, says Carson City Sheriff’s Office

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. WEDNESDAY At 6:55 a.m., Haywood Moye, 47, of Reno was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a stolen vehicle, domestic battery warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies responded to reports of a man knocking on doors and threatening residents near the 800 block of Travis Drive. Bail was set at $4,000.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office seeks suspect in credit card heist

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is seeking help identifying a suspect in a stolen credit card incident. On Jan. 16, an unknown female was captured on video using a stolen credit card that was taken during a vehicle burglary earlier that day. The female was seen using the card at a local business and a Reno-area fast food restaurant.

Lawmakers approved cash to jump-start recreational marijuana regs

The Legislative Interim Finance committee on Thursday approved $887,491 in contingency funds to jump start the Taxation Department’s program to regulate, license and manage the new recreational marijuana law.

3 arrests made in Carson City burglaries

Detectives from Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office worked a joint investigation Wednesday involving multiple residential burglaries between the two counties. A total of three arrests were made. The investigation led detectives to Dayton, where two suspects were located in possession of a large amount of stolen property from several burglaries.

TUESDAY At 4:41 p.m., Dennis Adair, 67, a transient, was arrested on suspicion of felony fugitive from justice after deputies responded to reports of a welfare check at the Highway 50 Arco gas station. Bail was set at $35,000.

Overview of proposed $26 billion state budget under way | 2017 Nevada Legislature

Gov. Brian Sandoval’s chief of staff and finance director on Tuesday began the process of laying out the recommended $26.14 billion state budget. The two biggest pieces of that total are the $7.9 billion in General Fund cash and the $9 billion in federal money for the Department of Health and Human services.

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. MONDAY At 2:38 p.m., Jessica Juarez, 36, of Carson City was arrested on suspicion of felony firearm by a prohibited person, felony possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial, conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of metal knuckles after conducting an investigation near the 1900 block of N. Carson Street. Bail was set at $30,000.

Fact Check: Coca-Cola not recalling Dasani water

NEW YORK — Coca-Cola has not issued a recall for Dasani and says the water is safe to drink, despite a false story shared on social media that claimed bottles were found contaminated with a parasite. The story posted online said a “clear parasite worm” was found in bottles of Dasani across the country. It said the incident sent several hundred people to the hospital with symptoms of illness.

LAS VEGAS — Arizona would be the first state to feel the effects of Colorado River cutbacks if the water level continues to fall at drought-stricken Lake Mead, an environmental advocacy group says in a new report. Suspect caught in chase near Carson City

One man is in custody following a car chase that ended just north of Carson City on Thursday. Around 10:15 a.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers attempted to stop a vehicle in Washoe Valley, after callers reported a man hitting a female passenger in the vehicle. When troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect fled.

Raiders file papers to move from Oakland to Las Vegas

Woman arrested on disorderly conduct, says Carson City Sheriff’s Office

Nevada legislative auditors say Aging and Disability providers overcharged for services

Legislative auditors presented a report on Wednesday charging the Aging and Disability Services Division overpaid Sierra Regional Center in Reno and Desert Regional Center in Las Vegas as much as $4.3 million in 2015. The division provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Nevada’s unemployment rate ended 2016 at 5.1 percent, the lowest in nine years. The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported Tuesday in a year-to-year comparison, the jobless rate was down 1.2 percent in December, compared with the same month in 2015.

Unemployment claims down 12 percent

State Employment Security officials say total unemployment claims were down nearly 12 percent in 2016 compared to the year before that. Anessandro Capello, an economist with the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, said monthly initial claims were stable throughout the year with no month exceeding 14,000 unemployment claims. Distracted drive arrestested on suspicion of DUI says Carson City Sheriff’s Office

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. TUESDAY At 12:26 a.m., a 23-year-old Fernley man was arrested on suspicion of DUI, violation of instruction permit, no proof of insurance, no proof of registration and a bench warrant after deputies initiated a traffic stop near Saliman Road and William Street. Bail was set at $2,725.
