Senators announce $21M in home energy grants

U.S. Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, Nevada Democrats, on Friday announced $21.2 million in grants from the federal Health and Human Services Department to offset the rising costs of home energy.

The funding comes from the bipartisan Infrastructure Law and comes through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program.

The senators said the funding will help families cover the costs of energy through this winter.

The energy assistance program helps low-income families cover the costs of home energy by providing payments and energy crisis assistance. In 2020, more than 26,000 Nevada households were served by the program.
